Neonatology

Four million babies die worldwide every year, in the first 28 days of life. 98% of these take place in developing countries (WHO statistics 2005).

Many of these deaths can be prevented through improved care and management.

Through education programmes and ‘hands-on’ clinical training, based on low-tech care, BirthLink plans to support neonatal departments, to help reduce neonatal and perinatal mortality and morbidity in developing countries.

Education will focus on newborn resuscitation, prevention of hypothermia, appropriate and safe feeding practices, low-tech management of respiratory distress and good hygiene and prevention of cross-infection.
